EAB News 2009-09-26: JEB Autumn Meeting

JEB Autumn Meeting

The autumn meeting of Junularo Esperantista Brita took place on Saturday 26th September in the Holborn area of London. This was the first time in recent memory that JEB had held a meeting in the capital and it proved to be a great success, with no fewer than 14 young people attending. A wide range of nationalities were represented, with Esperantists originally from Slovakia, Poland, Hungary and Sweden putting in an appearance alongside the regular JEB members. We were also joined by a number of members of LEJO, the Londona Esperantista Junularo, whose regular meeting place we were using. Amusingly, it was those people who lived furthest away who turned up first, with the londonanoj arriving somewhat later. No one made more effort to attend, however, than our surprise guest, Emmanuel, who came all the way from his home in Calais, France, specially to take part!

We all had lunch together and sat around the table chatting from the early afternoon until late into the evening. So many Esperantists had turned up that we hardly had enough chairs, and indeed we spent most of the time playing musical chairs, all swapping seats every so often so that we got chance to talk to different people. Some of us had to head back home the same day but a few others stopped in London overnight and met up again briefly the next day for some sightseeing and another drink. All in all it was a thoroughly enjoyable weekend, so much so that the JEB committee are currently considering holding meetings in London on a regular basis. If you're interested in meeting us there, or elsewhere in the UK, don't hesitate to get in touch at http://www.jeb.org.uk/forumoj.
